Children

About

Welcome! Child Ministry strives to touch children’s lives with God’s love, teach them God’s Word, and offer a sense of community with God’s people by cultivating a life-long personal faith in Jesus Christ and an understanding of their place in the Body of Christ, and their call to serve others in imitation of Christ. We encourage parents of children in preschool through grade 5 to partner with us in the faith formation of their children through involvement in our ministry.

Sacramental Preparation

All children who are of the age of reason (age 7) are eligible to prepare for their first Holy Communion. For children over the age of 8 years old, please contact Mrs. Irvine. Preparation includes:

  • Enrollment and participation in child formation classes or the day school for at least one year prior to the reception of the Eucharist.
  • Enrollment and participation in child formation classes or the day school during the year of reception, which includes formal preparation for first reconciliation in the fall  prior to first Eucharist the following spring.
  • Participation in all components of the immediate preparation program.
  • Active membership at St. Dominic Catholic Parish.
  • Weekly attendance at Sunday Mass.

2024-2025 Calendar

Child Ministry formation classes are offered September through May for children in K3 through grade 5. Registration begins in spring. Sadlier textbooks are used in the program, along with supplemental materials from various resources including Catholicicing.com, Loyola Press, and Real Life at Home.

C.L.O.W.

Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is an alternative worship experience for children in grades one through four. During most 9:00 AM Sunday Masses during the academic year, children are offered the opportunity to leave the worshiping community for simplified readings and reflections and discussion on the readings. Children return to the assembly at the presentation of the gifts. Sessions are led by an adult and assisted by confirmation candidates and other high school students.

CLOW is open to any child who would benefit from this type of worship experience and is willing to behave in a manner appropriate for regular worship. There is no registration; children may choose to participate week to week.
