Dominicans You Should Know
    Dominicans Every Catholic Should Know

As our parish continues to celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the death of our patron, St. Dominic, we look to those who were inspired by him and entered the Order of the Dominicans, which he founded. Dominican saints are both men and women, clergy and lay, all united around a love for truth, which comes from God and leads to God. They reveal the multifaceted aspects of Dominican spirituality. Consider picking up a book about one of these saints and learn of their love for God and his people. You are sure to find one that speaks to your heart.

    • St. Albert the Great (1200-1280) explored the relationship between the natural sciences and Christian revelation and sought to preach the Gospel in the cultural language of the time.
    • St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) is considered the greatest theologian the Church has ever known.
    • St. Catherine of Siena (1347-1380) was known for her fervent prayer and her love for truth, which led her to work for the reform and unity of the Church.
    • St. Martin de Poors (1579-1639), St. Rose of Lima (1586-1617), and St. Juan Macia (1585-1645) all lived in Lima, Peru. They imitated in action Christ’s love for the poor and the sick in humble simplicity.
    • St. Peter of Verona (1206-1262) shared in Christ’s preaching mission and was martyred for the faith.
    • St. Catherine de Ricci ((1522-1590) a great mystic, she bore the stigmata for over 50 years. She is a model of one who integrates ardent love of Christ crucified with the joy that comes from following Christ.
    • St. Vincent Ferrer (1350-1419) is an icon of zeal for those whose missionary objective is the salvation of souls.
    • Fra Angelico or Giovanni de Fiesole (1395-1455) was enamored of God’s beauty. He was an innovator in the early Renaissance and his frescoes are famous in the history of art.
