End of Year Message

5/23/25 | School Articles | by Ms. Brita Willis

At St. Dominic, being a student means being encouraged to grow in every aspect of one’s self—physically, emotionally, socially, academically, and spiritually. It means being seen and nurtured as a whole person, just as God created us. It also means having the freedom to speak about and experience Jesus—not just during religion class, but in our hallways, in spontaneous conversations, and most especially during our weekly school Mass. Being a student at St. Dominic also means being granted the patience and grace to make mistakes—because it is in those moments that true growth happens. Our school community embraces a spirit of learning where mistakes are not feared but celebrated as opportunities to reflect, learn, and continue developing in all areas.

One of the moments I look forward to most each week is our school Mass. It is a time when we come together not only to be with Jesus, but to receive Him in the Eucharist. The participation of our students—whether they are lectoring, cantoring, bearing gifts, or greeting—beautifully exemplifies our mission to raise disciples. Each week, we bring Jesus into our hearts and then carry Him back into our classrooms, our conversations, and our community. That, to me, is the true meaning of discipleship.

As this school year comes to a close, I want to express my sincere gratitude to so many of you for the warm welcome and ongoing support you have shown me in my first year as a part of the St. Dominic family. It has been a joy and a privilege to get to know so many of your children and to walk alongside them in their growth.

Every morning, I begin my day with a prayer that the work I do may be good work—work that is aligned with God’s will for our school and always done for His greater glory.

As we continue building this community together, I encourage you to say hello, connect when you can, and share your stories with me. I look forward to continuing to share a bit of mine as well.
