Our 3 Foot Circle

4/3/25 | School Articles | by Ms. Brita Willis

As we journey through this season of Lent, I have been reflecting on the importance of being intentional in my words, actions, and the way I move through each day. A thought from Mother Teresa has always stayed with me: she spoke about focusing on the people within our “three-foot circle”—the individuals we encounter in our daily lives. Instead of trying to change the entire world at once, she encouraged us to show love, care, and kindness to those closest to us. This reminder feels especially important during this busy time of year.

Lent offers us a perfect opportunity for us to pause and consider how we can better serve those around us, particularly in the small, everyday interactions we have with others. For our children, this can be a powerful model. When we, as teachers, parents, and role models, focus on acts of kindness in our "three-foot circle," we help teach our children the importance of love and service in their own relationships. Whether it’s a kind word to a classmate, offering help to a family member, or being present with a friend, these small acts can have a lasting and meaningful impact on those around us.

As we continue on our Lenten journey, I encourage you to reflect with your children on how you can all serve and love those in your own three-foot circle, whether at school, home, or in your community. By making small but intentional changes in how we treat others, we not only deepen our own journey of faith, but we also nurture a community spirit that will inspire our children.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping to nurture the hearts and minds of our children.
