Welcome Mr. Holden

Please Welcome Our Art Teacher, Mr. Matt Holden:

I grew up in Watertown, Wisconsin, attending St. Bernard’s Catholic school and parish, where my love of art developed and was nourished. After high school I headed south, to attend
Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, earning a BFA and majoring in computer animation. I have worked as an animator and animation director at a number of studios specializing in faith-based animated programming for children before shifting careers to education.

My love of visual storytelling is particularly gratified when working with others, which is how I see teaching—a collaboration. Every student has their own unique story, and as an art teacher I aim to empower them with a variety of tools and methods so that their inherent creativity and self-expression may flourish and inspire. I feel very blessed to join the Saint Dominic community, and to be able to work with such a wide age range of young people.

After having lived in Florida, North Carolina, and Minnesota, where I met my wife, we moved back to Wisconsin to raise our two kids and be near my family. In my free time, I love reading, movies, games, hiking, and working on my own art projects. It’s especially rewarding to see my kids develop their own artistic interests.
